Ultimo aggiornamento ( giovedì 01 novembre 2007 )   E' meglio comprare una scacchiera elettronica od un PC con un buon programma di scacchi? mercoledì 17 gennaio 2007 Ognuna delle due soluzioni presenta vantaggi e svantaggi. In sintesi, a favore della soluzione PC abbiamo: Un PC di ultima generazione abbinato ad uno qualsiasi dei programmi commerciali top ha solitamente, salvo smentite, una forza di gioco superiore a quelle delle migliori scacchiere elettroniche; I programmi commerciali di scacchi per PC spesso hanno una maggiore ricchezza di funzionalità rispetto ai programmi integrati nelle scacchiere elettroniche; Con un PC si possono installare e provare numerosissimi programmi di scacchi, sia gratuiti che commerciali, mentre con le scacchiere elettroniche la scelta, anche nel caso di quelle che supportano i moduli intercambiabili, è sempre limitata o addirittura non c'è; Particolare non trascurabile, con un PC si possono fare moltissime cose oltre a giocare a scacchi. D'altro canto, anche le scacchiere elettroniche hanno i loro grandi vantaggi: Sono nettamente più riposanti dei PC, specialmente nelle partite lunghe. Stare molto tempo a giocare di fronte al monitor del computer affatica gli occhi; Una scacchiera elettronica in genere è molto meno ingombrante di un PC, quindi è facilmente trasportabile. Esistono perfino scacchiere elettroniche tascabili con una buona forza di gioco, ottime per chi viaggia spesso o desidera giocare anche quando va in vacanza; Le scacchiere elettroniche, specialmente quelle in legno, sono davvero belle e possono perfino costituire uno splendido ed insolito pezzo d'arredamento. Una scacchiera elettronica consuma meno energia elettrica di un PC portatile, quindi ha un'autonomia sensibilmente maggiore.   Volendo acquistare un PC per giocare a scacchi, su che componenti conviene concentrare la spesa? mercoledì 17 gennaio 2007 Cominciamo con una constatazione. Molti acquistano un PC ultimo modello, potentissimo, abbinandolo con un programma professionale come Fritz o Shredder per "sentire l'ebbrezza" di giocare contro un "Grande Maestro virtuale", salvo poi perdere contro di esso ignominiosamente tutte le partite in trenta mosse o meno. Per esempio, Deep Fritz su un K6-II 450 Mhz si trova a soli 57 punti ELO dal primo classificato, Chess Tiger 14.0 CB su Athlon 1200 Mhz. Da notare, anche, che nel passaggio dal modesto K6-II 450 Mhz al più potente Athlon 1,2 Ghz (gigahertz) il salto di prestazione di un medesimo programma, in genere, è mediamente abbastanza contenuto, cioè all'incirca 100 punti ELO o addirittura meno. Ne deduciamo che, più che spendere tanti soldi in hardware, conviene quasi sempre tenersi il proprio computer e, semmai, comprarsi un buon programma, se si possiede il desiderio di giocare contro un avversario elettronico di ottimo livello. Tuttavia anche con un modesto e gratuito Crafty 18.xx, su WinBoard, si è poco distanti come prestazioni dai più blasonati programmi comerciali. Per esempio, Crafty 18.12 CB su K6-II 450 Mhz è al 29° posto della classifica ELO-SSDF con 2501 punti, più che sufficienti per dare filo da torcere anche a giocatori di livello medio-alto. D'altro canto, il principale vantaggio dei programmi commerciali di scacchi rispetto a quelli gratuiti sta nella ricchezza di opzioni (livelli e stili di gioco, analisi delle partite, funzioni di allenamento e insegnamento, eccetera), nell'interfaccia grafica solitamente molto curata e, perlomeno nella maggior parte dei casi, nella migliore gestione degli archivi di partite. Se proprio non avete troppi problemi di soldi ed avevate già in progetto di comprarvi un PC nuovo, allora la spesa va ripartita principalmente sul microprocessore e sulla memoria RAM, quest'ultima preferibilmente di tipo DDR. La velocità del disco fisso e degli altri componenti è molto meno importante. In particolare è quasi del tutto inutile spendere un mucchio di soldi per una scheda grafica 3D di ultima generazione - come quelle basate sui chipset nVidia GeForce 3, GeForce 4 o ATi Radeon 8500 - per il semplice motivo che i programmi di scacchi solitamente non fanno uso di funzioni 3D avanzate (recentemente ChessBase, con il programma Fritz 9, sembra però intenzionata ad introdurre la grafica 3D evoluta anche nei software scacchistici). Dunque, a meno che non siate patiti anche di videogiochi 3D dell'ultima generazione - come, per esempio, Quake 3, Max Payne od il nuovo Return To Castle Wolfenstein - una qualunque scheda grafica AGP economica sarà più che sufficiente. Con i soldi risparmiati potrete comprarvi un forte programma di scacchi e, se giocate spesso e usate il computer per allenarvi, magari anche un buon archiviatore (database) di partite.   Che cos'è lo zeitnot? mercoledì 17 gennaio 2007 Lo zeitnot è la mancanza di tempo di riflessione in una partita disputata con gli orologi. Un giocatore entra in zeitnot quando deve ancora effettuare parecchie mosse prima che gli scada il tempo a disposizione. In tale fase sbagliare diventa molto più facile perchè è impossibile esaminare in dettaglio tutte le varianti come si desidererebbe   Che cos'è il gioco "Rapid Chess"? mercoledì 17 gennaio 2007 Il Rapid Chess è il gioco degli scacchi in cui il tempo di riflessione è limitato a 60 minuti per giocatore. Pertanto una partita di questo genere può durare al massimo due ore. Questa cadenza di gioco rappresenta un compromesso fra i giochi veloci, come la partita lampo e semilampo, ed i giochi da torneo regolare, dove i giocatori hanno di solito a disposizione due ore per le prime 40 mosse ed un'ora per ogni 20 mosse successive.   Altri articoli...
