Da tre a cinque esercizi tattici al giorno sono una buona media. 2) Studiate in profondità gli elementi posizionali del gioco e la loro relazione con gli aspetti tattici. Il giocatore completo deve saper affrontare situazioni posizionali e situazioni tattiche e riconoscere quando è il momento di attaccare o di difendersi. 3) Imparate le regole basi dei finali e cercate di comprendere in maniera profonda i finali basilari, specialmente quelli di Re e pedoni e di Torri. Cercate di affinare la vostra 'sensibilità' tattica dei finali. 4) Imparate a vincere le partite vinte e a resistere tenacemente (e magari pattare o vincere) quelle perse. Per fare ciò, esercitatevi (anche contro il computer) a continuare voi partite di GM dal momento in cui uno dei due giocatori abbandona. Provate così a vincere, alternando con partite in cui prenderete invece la parte perdente e cercherete di resistere il più possibile. 5) Studiate in modo approfondito le partite dei Grandi Maestri del passato e soprattutto partite con i commenti dei giocatori stessi. Almeno tre partite di GM alla settimana. 6) Giocate partite serie, con orologio, contro avversari della vostra forza o leggermente superiori (anche un computer, in mancanza di meglio). Poi analizzate in modo completo ogni partita, soprattutto quelle perse. Meglio ancora se lo farete insieme al vostro avversario. 7) Allenatevi anche fisicamente. Soprattutto sport come: jogging, nuoto, ciclismo sono ideali per gli scacchisti. specialmente coloro che intendono dedicarsi all'agonismo seriamente. 8) Applicatevi su posizioni tipiche che si originano dalle aperture da voi preferite.Giocatele anche a colori invertiti, ciò vi permetterà di scoprire nuove idee e possibilità. Due volte alla settimana. 9) Imparate i principi basilari di poche ma selezionate aperture, che in seguito adotterete con assiduità fino al punto di diventarne dei veri esperti. Ciò vi aiuterà anche di fronte a giocatori più forti. 10) Non dimenticate mai che negli scacchi il 'fattore umano' è spesso decisivo. Si vincono e si perdono partite per stanchezza, distazione, superficialità, supponenza, presunzione, paura... tutte caratteristiche umane, e quindi irrazionali.
